SeaGuardian collects and transmits your device's background location data. This is strictly required to enable Live Voyage Tracking, automated SOS alerts, and location sharing with your trusted companions even when the app is closed or not actively in use.
1. Information We Collect
- Personal Information: Name, email address, phone number, and emergency contact details provided during account creation.
- Location Data: Precise GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, speed, and heading) collected in the foreground and background while a voyage is active.
- Vessel Data: Boat name, MMSI, dimensions, and engine diagnostic data (vibration, temperature) uploaded manually or synced via our IoT hardware.
- Media: Photos uploaded to your profile or attached to Scene Sharing / SOS incidents.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To track your active maritime voyages and alert you if you drift off course.
- To instantly broadcast your precise GPS location to emergency contacts and trusted companions in the event of an SOS activation.
- To synchronize offline SOS data via background sync when network connectivity is restored.
- To process app subscriptions and authenticate your account securely via JWT tokens.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. Your information is only shared under the following conditions:
- Trusted Companions: If you explicitly share your location or invite a passenger, they can view your real-time GPS location and boat avatar.
- Emergency Responders: In the event of an SOS, your location, medical notes, and vessel details are transmitted to your emergency contacts (via Twilio SMS/Email).
- Service Providers: We use third-party services (like Stripe for web billing and Google GenAI) to operate the app. Data passed to them is strictly limited to what is necessary for their function.
- Background Location Data: SeaGuardian collects location data to enable live voyage tracking and SOS emergency sharing even when the app is closed or not in use. This data is only collected during an active voyage and is securely shared only with your designated emergency contacts or marine authorities.
4. Data Security and Retention
We implement strict security measures including HTTPS, JWT authentication, and secure database architecture. Your live tracking data is securely overwritten or archived when a trip concludes. Active SOS logs are maintained until resolved.
5. Your Rights & Account Deletion
You have the right to access, correct, or request the deletion of your personal data. You can revoke location permissions at any time via your device settings, though this will disable core SOS tracking features.
